The starting point for the massing of the development was to form a termination to the top of High Street. This is achieved by creating a destination urban square. In order to provide enclosure to the square and connectivity with Smithfield, the proposed buildings hug the square to three sides.
The buildings proposal comprise a 70,000 ft2 landmark ‘L’ shaped office block with 15,000 ft2 floor plates, combined with a range of four storey office units between 6,000 ft2 and 10,000 ft2 nett wrapped around a new public space ‘Smithfield Square’ incorporating a new ‘landmark’ café and the refurbishment of the listed Victorian Mackie Mayor building.
