st. peter’s, huddersfield

client: yorkshire forward / kirklees council

Roger Stephenson Architects won a competition to replace a derelict, ten storey, post war building in the conservation area of Huddersfield with a high quality mixed use scheme that embraces the principles of sustainable design and development.

We took the challenge to retain a Victorian YMCA building and wrap the new media centre with a residential block above around it. The space between the YMCA and new build is an architectural statement in its own right, forming a new linear courtyard leading up to a landscaped ‘semi-public’ space that forms the main entrance to the offices.
